Welcome

The Venetian Ghetto has been a staple in the Venice community for over 500 years now. This project explores the dense, rich history of the ghetto. Interviews were also conducted with keystone members of the community, showcasing their history, traditions, and their importance to the community. This website also serves as a database of all the digital artifacts I collected during my brief time exploring the Venetian ghetto.

Where is the ghetto heading?

The history of the Venetian Ghetto demonstrates that enforced isolation did not extinguish Jewish life but rechanneled it into forms of resilience and cultural expression that outlasted the ghetto itself.

“I grew up in these streets, in the ghetto. We did not feel different."
